Throughout the year we sell cattle both private treaty and auctions through regional associations of the American Highland Cattle Association. We run a Fall calving season and do not sell or take deposits on any calf until they are weaned from their dams, so calves are available in the Spring every year.

To be put on our contact list for our calves, message Jim at 410-708-9746. Once we are ready to sell, everyone on the contact list will be messaged and cattle will be sold on a first come, first served basis.

!!WE DO NOT BREED, SELL, NOR CONDONE MINIATURE HIGHLANDS, AND WE WILL NOT SELL CALVES ON THE BOTTLE!!

What To Expect When Purchasing

Health

All of our calves are fully vaccinated by our veterinarian when they are sold. Cattle will have an RFID tag when sold, AHCA calves will also be tattooed for permanent identification.

Genetics

When looking at calves, we can give information on traits like temperament, udder quality, and feed efficiency in that genetic line to help buyers make the best decision on what they add to their herd. We also compete with our cattle both at all breed beef cattle shows and AHCA sanctioned shows throughout the year to see where we can improve our herd in the eyes of different judges. Our calves can be either a first generation for dams we bought to diversify the genetics of our herd, or may trace back 3-4 generations of cattle bred by us, giving us plenty of knowledge for what to expect from calves when they go on to produce calves of their own, allowing buyers to make informed decisions to choose calves that will best fit their breeding program goals. You can also head to the “Cows” along with the “Bulls & Steers” sections under the “Our Herd” tab on the website to see photos of the calves sires and dams!

Our herd is currently transition to be a fully AHCA registered herd. These AHCA registered calves that we sell are sold with registration already completed, so the only step new owners need to take is signing the paper for transfer and shipping the transfer to AHCA headquarters.

Training

Our sale calves are started on the halter when they are sold, we aim for calves to be trained to tie, be brushed, and walk. The amount of training completed will depend on the personality and responsiveness of the calf. We get to know the calves personality and temperament before making cattle available so buyers know what to expect from the calf they choose to take home.

Advice

We have been raising Highlands since 2008, and are currently the longest running Highland Herd in Maryland. Although we are constantly learning new things, we have developed experience with this breed that we are always willing to share. When purchasing from us, you are not only getting a cow, you are also getting lifelong support from us. We are happy to answer any questions you may have, and are happy to share our experiences, both the good and the bad, with beginner cattlemen. Whether you are looking for advice on training, breeding, or raising calves, we are happy to answer any questions at any time as best as we can.

Running W Crimson, $6,000

Crimson is a 9 year old unregistered cow out of one of our favorite cows we’ve had, Sally, sired by OSF Brogan 6th! Don’t let the age fool you, Crimson’s mother Sally was the poster child for the longevity of Highland’s, having her last calf at 19 years old when we decided to retire her! Crimson is not halter trained, and will not go seeking attention, but causes no problems, is easy to work around, will let people pet her occasionally, and is not aggressive even when she has her calf. She is pasture exposed to H & H Abraham for a Fall calf. She has never needed assistance Delivering or raising calves, and over the past few years her calves have consistently been some of the most outgoing in the group. We are only selling since we are moving to an AHCA Registered only herd, but with her quality, we are in no rush to have her sold.
