Welcome to Running W Farm! We are a family-owned farm in Chestertown, Maryland. The farm has been in our family since the 1950’s, and in 2008 we decided to start raising Scottish Highland Cattle. Over the years our herd has grown to be roughly 100 head of cattle! We sell grass fed Highland Beef and offer a variety of Highland Cow Experiences!
Meet Highland Cows
In 2023, we began running Holiday photos with our Highland Cows for our 4-Hers to raise money to buy project hogs for 4-H. What started as a small fundraising experiment lead to more photo sessions, and opening our farm for private sessions for people just like you to meet our Highland’s and learn about the breed, our operation, and the world of agriculture!
We currently offer two types of private visits for small groups, a 1 hr “Meet the Moos” session for groups of 1-6 people, and our more in depth “Coos & Views” Session for groups of 1-5 people.

Mobile Events
We have years of experience bringing our Highlands off the property to share the love of the breed with the local community! If you’re interested in having the cows come to you for an upcoming event, public or private, click the button below and fill out our mobile events form!
Meat Products
It is our belief that healthy food begins with healthy animals raised as naturally as possible. Our cattle are grass fed, grass finished, and raised under Beef Quality Assurance and Quality Highland Beef Programs. Highland beef is well marbled, and due to their double coat keeping them warm throughout winter, they have less back fat than other breeds. Highland beef is naturally lean, tender, and flavorful. It also has health benefits, having more vitamin E, Beta Carotene, higher Iron levels, and lower cholesterol. Along with Highland beef we also sell locally raised pork and chicken products. Products can be picked up at the farm (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm) or at the Chestertown Farmers Market (Saturdays, 8am-12pm).
